Withdrawals will reopen in stages

Bitget has announced a timetable for restoring withdrawals following the security incident it identified on September 24. In an update published on September 26, the exchange said the vulnerability had been identified and remediated, with further security checks under way.

Bitcoin withdrawals on the Bitcoin network are scheduled to resume at 08:00 UTC on September 28. Ethereum is scheduled to follow on September 29, then USDT on September 30. Other tokens, fiat and peer-to-peer services are scheduled for October 2.

The theft estimate has increased

The estimated loss rose from an initial $351.6 million to approximately $387.5 million after additional transfers were accounted for. The size of the incident makes the withdrawal restart a significant test of customer confidence.

Bitget has said customer balances remain unaffected and its Protection Fund will cover the financial impact. That is the exchange’s assurance, not an independent guarantee. Customers will be watching whether the announced restoration translates into reliable access to their assets.

Investigators are still working

Independent cybersecurity specialists Mandiant and SlowMist are supporting the investigation. Bitget says the incident is contained and its teams are validating withdrawal infrastructure before each stage of the reopening.

The September 26 update does not provide a complete technical post-mortem. Claims about the precise entry point or every security control bypassed should therefore be treated cautiously until the investigators publish their findings.

A balance is not the same as access

Trading and deposits have continued during the suspension, according to Bitget. Withdrawals remain the more consequential milestone for users who want to move assets away from the platform.

A phased restart gives an exchange time to test its systems, but it also extends the period during which some customers cannot withdraw. The next checkpoint is the planned Bitcoin reopening on September 28, followed by the remaining asset groups.
