BNB Chain Just Declared War on MEV, And It’s Winning

CZ and BNB Chain fight MEV exploits, backed by 82.9% vote. $300M lost to attacks. Fixes include private RPCs, PBS, and BEP upgrades. 70% blocks resistant; goal is 90%.
CZ just fired a shot across the bow of MEV extractors, and the BNB Chain community is backing him up with an 82.9% "let's fix this" vote.
The beloved founder and crypto OG isn’t pulling any punches, and is working to rid the network of what he considers a net negative for the ecosystem.
Time to break down why this matters.
The reality of the situation is that, for your average person, MEV has been bleeding users dry.
We're talking $300M in losses from sandwich attacks and other sneaky moves on BSC.
Behind these numbers are actual degens getting rekt, likely without fully understanding what even happened.
To put how bad things are getting into context, 43,000+ traders got hit in just one week back in 2021.
More than a third of all blocks were compromised by these shenanigans, leading to CZ himself having to step in and throwing shade at front-runners like it's 2017 all over again.
The community isn’t just complaining this time - they're actually doing something about this issue.
PancakeSwap and 48 Club are already running private RPCs to dodge the sandwich makers and save their users money.
Meanwhile, 60% of blocks are now running through PBS (that's Proposer-Builder Separation), which is a tool that helps curve the risk of MEV attack.
BNB Chain is pulling out all the stops to make things right, with BEP-341 letting validators stack blocks four deep for better throughput.
They're also standardizing their builder API (hello, BEP-322), and there's even a real-time MEV dashboard for the data nerds among us who want to monitor the situation as it evolves.
This isn't just about saving a few basis points on your swaps (although that would be nice.)
We're talking about a $101B ecosystem getting serious about fairness.
MEV attacks are great for the highly-integrated tech nerds that make them possible, but it makes the entire ecosystem otherwise unusable for the rest of us.
Remember how Ross Ulbricht lost $12 million to MEV attacks when trying to deploy liquidity?
Plus, with $6.84B in stables sloshing around and 4M daily transactions, there's real money on the line for your normal folks, too.
Sure, you can't kill MEV completely - it's like trying to stop traders from trading.
But BNB Chain's throwing everything at the wall: private RPCs, PBS, decentralized relays, and the whole kitchen sink.
When 70% of blocks are already running MEV-resistant tech, and they're gunning for 90%, the ecosystem is just screaming for an upgrade that solves this issue to the best of the community’s ability.
And with CZ now joining the fight to make it happen, it’s worth taking notes – whether you're trading on BSC or just watching from the sidelines, this is how you do an ecosystem upgrade.
