Kraken Plans to Replace 176 Native Trading Pairs With Synthetic Pairs

Kraken’s November orderbook migration will cancel affected open orders rather than transfer them automatically.
Kraken posted notice on October 27 that approximately 176 native trading pairs will be replaced with synthetic pairs. The notice’s detailed timeline says affected books enter cancel-only mode on November 6 at 14:00 UTC, with remaining orders canceled and the native pairs delisted during November 6–9.
The same notice says replacement synthetic pairs are planned for the end of November 9. Existing open orders will not transfer to the replacements. Kraken directs customers to its Support Center for the affected list. The status page’s separate maintenance banner shows a later window, making the detailed timeline and any subsequent updates particularly important to follow.
Trading pairs describe a route for exchanging one asset against another. A change to a particular book should therefore be read at that level, rather than automatically interpreted as an asset disappearing from every service on the exchange. The precise affected list is more useful than a general claim about the whole platform.
For a person with an open order, continuity is the immediate issue. An instruction waiting on an old book is not the same as a fresh order entered under a replacement arrangement. Kraken’s statement that orders will not transfer makes that boundary explicit and avoids the assumption that existing trading intentions continue unchanged after the migration.
The development is also relevant to applications that depend on a venue’s market structure. A trading interface can retain familiar asset names while the underlying route or book changes. Systems need accurate market information and a clear understanding of which orders remain active, rather than infer continuity from a similar-looking pair label.
Dates deserve the same care. A migration can involve several stages, from restrictions on new activity to order cancellation and replacement availability. Treating it as one instantaneous event can obscure when a particular instruction stops working. Clear stage-by-stage communication helps both manual traders and automated systems understand what the venue is planning.
Kraken’s notice establishes a concrete orderbook transition with an explicit limit: affected open orders will be canceled rather than carried forward. The next useful information is any updated timing and the final status of the replacement books. Until then, the announcement is best understood as a scheduled market-structure change, with the exchange’s exact list and current operational notices defining its scope.
