Pump.fun lets users easily create meme coins on mobile, with over 50k downloads in the first hour. SOL’s price surged, but the app has bugs and mixed reviews.
If you thought Solana's memecoin scene couldn't get crazier, Pump.fun just landed in everyone’s pocket.
Nothing says “full degen” like being able to ape your entire portfolio into the latest token named after CZ’s dog like a mobile app.
It’s for Android and iOS as well, and the numbers are already shaping up to look pretty insane.
Those downloads are stacking up, with a total of over 50,000 on Google Play alone in the first hour.
That's a lot of meme coin hopefuls trying to mint the next BONK from their phones.
The app comes loaded with everything a proper degen needs: free token creation, instant trading, and portfolio tracking for all your questionable life choices.
But, of course, it can’t be as simple as an app launching – some galaxy-brain traders already found "test" tokens that might've been created by Pump.fun insiders.
One of them is a cheeky little Antshares (NEO) variant minted by a wallet straight from the app's download page – the creativity never stops in this industry.
No word as to whether this was meant to be found or if some sneaky devs decided to slip in a token that they hoped would get discovered and subsequently pump to the moon.
All this meme coin madness isn't just about funny dog pictures – the big coin itself is starting to feel the love.
SOL just pumped above $200, claiming that #5 spot by market cap as it did it.
Why did SOL catch some tailwinds from this app launch?
Well, every new token needs SOL for Raydium liquidity, meaning that we’re looking at a good old story of supply and demand, but with a bit of a degen twist.
The platform has basically become a money printer for SOL holders, and nobody's complaining… assuming they have a bag, that is.
As with any newly-launched app, there are some bugs to be expected.. And not-so-happy reviewers to complain about them.
The iOS app is sitting at a brutal 2.6-star rating, which is about as bearish as it gets when it comes to reviews.
Thanks to that FCA warning from December, UK traders are still in timeout and are unable to use the app and pump.fun had to kill their beloved live stream feature because some folks were getting way too wild with the video content.
Seems like even meme factories have their growing pains.
You have to appreciate pump.fun making it possible to create memecoins while waiting for your coffee.
It’s an equally brilliant and terrifying innovation, depending on who you ask.
The platform has essentially democratized token creation, putting the power of meme magic right in everyone's pocket… for better or worse
Whether that's a good thing? Well, that's another story and likely heavily influenced by how much money you’ve made on meme coins.
This might just be the start of Mobile Memecoin Season – after all, the barrier to entry just dropped lower than your average meme coin market cap.
We might see an explosion of new tokens, and with them, both opportunities and disasters – some will make ridiculous gains, while others will get completely rekt.
Just keep in mind that when it’s this easy to make a meme coin, you should tread carefully with how much of your portfolio you’re aping in.
