Pye Finance Raises Five Million Dollar Seed Round Led by Variant and Coinbase Ventures

Pye Finance secured a five million dollar seed round to build a marketplace that makes locked Solana staking positions tradable on chain.
Pye Finance has raised five million dollars in seed funding to expand its platform focused on unlocking liquidity from staked Solana positions. The round was led by Variant and Coinbase Ventures, with participation from several notable crypto investors. The company plans to develop an onchain marketplace that lets users trade and exit locked staking positions instead of waiting for unlock periods to expire.
This creates an entirely new layer of flexibility for anyone participating in staking on Solana.
Staking is widely used, especially on Solana where staking yields are attractive. The issue is that staked assets are often locked for days or weeks, depending on the protocol and validator setup.
During that time, users cannot:
• Sell
• Switch validators
• Reallocate funds
• Access liquidity
This leaves participants exposed to market movements with their capital frozen.
Pye intends to solve that by making those locked staking positions transferable.
The platform turns a locked staking position into a tradable onchain asset. That position can be listed on a marketplace, priced based on yield, lock time, performance and risk.
Buyers can step in and acquire those positions at a discount, similar to how debt, bonds or escrowed positions sometimes trade below face value.
This creates natural incentives on both sides:
• Holders get liquidity without waiting
• Buyers receive yield opportunities at a discount
The model looks similar to secondary markets in traditional finance, adapted for staking assets.
Investors see this as a structural opportunity because staking is no longer niche. A significant share of crypto liquidity is locked in validators. Turning that into fluid market activity unlocks capital that would otherwise sit idle.
The inclusion of Variant and Coinbase Ventures signals confidence that the problem is meaningful across cycles, not just during bullish phases.
It also hints at possible integrations with larger wallets, custodians or staking services over time.
Solana has one of the most active staking ecosystems in the industry. Introducing a marketplace for locked positions would:
• Increase optionality for users
• Improve efficiency across validators
• Reduce friction for people who need liquidity
• Support broader adoption of staking strategies
It may also encourage more staking, since users no longer feel tied to long delays.
Pye plans to deploy products gradually, starting with marketplace functionality for locked SOL staking. Later phases could expand into:
• Different staking derivatives
• Validator ranking and pricing tools
• Tokenized representations of locked positions
• Partnerships with institutional staking providers
The company is positioning itself as an infrastructure layer rather than a simple trading venue.
With fresh capital and strong backers, Pye now has a clear path toward turning staking liquidity into a real secondary market.
