Scammers just airdropped a massive 90 million fake Grok tokens into CZ's wallet, as if they were handing out flyers at a mall.

The former Binance CEO's address was spammed on April 21 as part of a broader scheme to make these worthless tokens appear legitimate.

If you're thinking about buying any "official" Grok token, you might as well just set your money on fire – it would be more entertaining and equally profitable.

The Scam Playbook

The scammers employed the classic "multisend" tactic, distributing tokens across numerous high-profile addresses, including CZ's.

The price pumped 40% in an hour as degens rushed to buy what they thought was the next big Elon-related token.

PeckShield immediately flagged the entire transaction as fraudulent, but not before many people lost their money to this dubious tactic.

There is no official Grok token, there never has been, and Elon's AI assistant has nothing to do with crypto.

X's Grok chatbot has repeatedly stated that it is not launching a token, but that hasn't stopped scammers from creating new ones every other week.

We've Seen This Before

This isn't even the first fake Grok token to rug people – last year, someone launched an ERC-20 version that dumped 90% after the creator sold their share.

Scammers love using Elon's name more than Tesla owners love talking about their cars.

The entire playbook revolves around making something seem Musk-adjacent, then watching as retail investors throw money at it without basic research.

Address poisoning and phishing attacks have already stolen over $1 billion across nearly 300 incidents in 2024 alone.

It turns out people are still falling for "Send me 1 ETH and I'll send you 2 back," even in 2025.

The Full Scam Arsenal

Fake airdrops are just the beginning – these scammers have more tricks up their sleeve than a street magician.

They're creating elaborate phishing sites that resemble official Grok token presales, complete with fake Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, to steal your identity.

Social media is flooded with "AI Elon Musk stream" announcements promising to double your crypto if you just send it to a random address.

Grok tokens are appearing on every chain, from Ethereum to BNB to Solana.

Meta is the most impersonated brand in these phishing attacks, over 25 times more than Coinbase, the most targeted crypto company.

The Victims Are Losing Millions

People aren't just losing a few hundred dollars – some victims have reported that their entire life savings have been gone after falling for these elaborate schemes.

The psychological manipulation is masterful, with scammers creating artificial urgency and exclusivity that bypasses people's usual skepticism.

Phishing and address poisoning have become the crypto equivalent of pickpocketing – except the thieves can steal your entire bank account from another continent.

The technical sophistication of these scams continues to improve, while crypto education remains stuck at the basics, such as "what is a blockchain?"

Even experienced users can fall prey to a well-executed scam when their guard is down or FOMO (fear of missing out) kicks in.

How To Not Get Rekt

If someone airdrops you a token with Elon's face or name attached, it's about as legitimate as a $3 bill.

Never, ever connect your wallet to a site promising exclusive presale access to the "official" Grok token – there isn't one.

Verify any announcement through multiple official channels before even considering a new token or investment.

Keep your seed phrase and private keys more secure than your most embarrassing search history.

Remember that Elon Musk isn't staying up late at night figuring out how to give you free crypto – he's too busy trolling on X.

The Hard Truth

The crypto industry is still fighting an uphill battle against scammers who can create sophisticated operations in minutes.

CZ getting spammed with fake tokens shows that even the most prominent figures in the space aren't immune to these tactics.

As long as people are willing to believe they can get rich quickly through Elon-adjacent tokens, these scams will continue.

The best investment you can make isn't in some hot new meme coin, but in learning how to spot these increasingly convincing frauds.

And maybe, just maybe, think twice before aping into a token just because it has a billionaire's AI project name attached to it.
